1. About this policy

Your privacy matters to us. This policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It covers our website laraschilken.com, our coaching, workshops, events and programs, and our social media and email communications (together, the "Services"). It also includes our Cookie Policy (section 12).

We handle personal information in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles. "Personal information" means any information that can identify you, such as your name, email address, payment details, or information about how you use our website.

By using our website or Services, you agree to this policy. If you don't agree, please don't use them.

2. What we collect

Information you give us. This may include:

  • your name, email address, phone number and postcode;

  • booking, enquiry and payment details (card details are handled by our payment provider, and we don't store full card numbers);

  • information you share on forms, intake questionnaires, or in emails and messages;

  • photos, testimonials, reviews and comments you choose to send or post;

  • your preferences, such as which emails you want to receive.

Information about your wellbeing and relationships. Coaching involves personal topics, and you may share details about your relationships, emotions, health or life circumstances. This may be "sensitive information" under Australian privacy law. We only collect it with your consent, only to the extent it's reasonably necessary to provide our Services, and we treat it with extra care. You never have to share more than you're comfortable with.

Information collected automatically. When you visit our website, we and our service providers may automatically collect your IP address, device and browser type, pages visited, time spent on each page, the website you came from, and information about errors you encounter. On its own this information may not identify you, but it could be combined with other information we hold.

Information from others. We may receive information about you from platforms you use to interact with us (such as Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn or YouTube), from people who refer you, or from our booking and payment providers.

3. How we collect it

We collect personal information when you:

  • visit or use our website;

  • book or buy a Service, or enter a competition or giveaway;

  • fill out a form, intake questionnaire or survey;

  • sign up for our emails or community;

  • contact us by email, phone, or social media, or mention us on social media;

  • attend one of our workshops or events.

4. Why we collect and use it

We use your personal information to:

  • provide, manage and personalise our Services, and process bookings and payments;

  • communicate with you, including about your bookings, sessions and changes to events;

  • send you newsletters and promotional information, where you've opted in (see section 8);

  • understand how people use our website and social media so we can improve them;

  • run competitions and giveaways;

  • keep records and meet our legal, tax and accounting obligations;

  • resolve disputes and protect our legal rights.

We will only use your information for the purpose we collected it, a closely related purpose you would reasonably expect, or another purpose you've agreed to or the law allows.

5. Who we share it with

We don't sell your personal information. We share it only with people and businesses that help us run our Services, and only as needed. Depending on what you use, they may include:

  • our website host and platform, [Squarespace — confirm];

  • analytics providers, [Google Analytics — confirm];

  • our email and newsletter provider, [platform — e.g. Mailchimp / Kit / other];

  • our booking, scheduling and payment providers, [e.g. Stripe / PayPal / Calendly / other];

  • social media and advertising platforms, [Instagram, Facebook (Meta), LinkedIn, YouTube — confirm];

  • venues or co-facilitators for events you attend, limited to what's needed to run the event (for example, a name list);

  • our accountant, lawyer, insurer and other professional advisers;

  • courts, regulators and law enforcement, where we are required by law or need to protect our legal rights;

  • a buyer, if our business is ever sold or transferred (we'd require them to honour this policy).

These providers have their own privacy policies, which apply to how they handle your information. This policy doesn't cover them.

6. Sending information overseas

Some of our providers store or process information outside Australia, including in the United States and the United Kingdom [confirm]. When we send personal information overseas, we take reasonable steps to make sure it's handled securely. By using our Services, you accept that overseas providers may not be subject to the Australian Privacy Principles, and may not be accountable under the Privacy Act if they handle your information in a way that doesn't meet them.

7. Recordings and photos

We will only record a one-on-one coaching session with your agreement. At workshops and events we may take photos or video for marketing. If you'd rather not appear, tell us before or at the start of the event and we'll respect that. You can also ask us to remove a photo or testimonial from our channels at any time by emailing us, though we can't recall material that has already been published or printed.

8. Marketing and emails

We send marketing emails only to people who have signed up or otherwise consented. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can also ask us to stop at any time by emailing us. If you unsubscribe from marketing, we may still send you service messages about bookings you've made.

9. Keeping your information safe

We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, loss, and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure, including using password-protected systems and reputable providers. No method of storage or transmission online is completely secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security. Please choose a strong password for any account you hold with us, and avoid posting personal information publicly on our website or social media.

If there's a data breach likely to cause you serious harm, we will notify you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) as required by law.

10. How long we keep it

We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purposes above or as the law requires. For example, we keep financial records for at least 5 years for tax purposes. When we no longer need information, we delete it or remove anything that identifies you. If you ask us to delete your information, we will do so unless the law requires us to keep it.

11. Your rights and choices

You can:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you;

  • Correct anything that's inaccurate, out of date or incomplete;

  • Withdraw consent or opt out of marketing at any time;

  • Ask us to delete your information;

  • Complain if you think we've breached your privacy.

To do any of these, email us at [email]. We may need to confirm your identity first, and we'll respond within a reasonable time (usually within 30 days). We won't charge you for making a request, and we won't treat you differently for exercising your rights.

If you're not happy with our response, you can contact the OAIC at oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992. If you live in the European Economic Area, the UK or California, you may have additional rights under local laws, such as restricting or objecting to processing, data portability, and knowing the categories of information we share. Email us and we'll help.

Our Services are for people aged 18 and over. We don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18.

12. Cookie Policy

What is a cookie? A cookie is a small piece of data that a website stores on your device when you visit. It helps the site recognise your browser when you return, remember your settings, and understand how the site is used. Cookies set by the site you're visiting are "first-party" cookies. Cookies set by other companies (such as analytics or advertising providers) are "third-party" cookies, and can sometimes track you across different websites.

Types of cookies we use [confirm each against your website settings]:

  • Essential cookies. These make the website work, for example keeping you logged in, remembering items in a cart, and processing payments. We use these cookies, and they can't be switched off.

  • Performance (analytics) cookies. These tell us how visitors use our website, such as which pages are most popular and where errors occur. This information is aggregated and generally doesn't identify you. We use these cookies [via Google Analytics].

  • Functionality cookies. These remember choices you make, such as language or location. We [do not use / use] these cookies.

  • Targeting and advertising cookies. These help show you relevant content and ads, and limit how often you see them. They can be set by third parties, such as Meta, and can track you across other sites. We use these cookies [via the Meta pixel — remove this bullet if you don't use any advertising pixels].

Your choices. You can accept or decline non-essential cookies using the cookie banner on our site [if you have one]. You can also set your browser to refuse some or all cookies, or to delete them. If you block cookies, some parts of our website may not work properly. To opt out of Google Analytics, you can use Google's browser add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout. To manage ad preferences on Instagram and Facebook, use the ad settings in your account.

This cookie policy covers cookies set by our site. It doesn't cover cookies set by third-party services, which have their own policies. Our website also doesn't respond to "Do Not Track" browser signals.

13. Links to other websites

Our website may link to sites we don't operate. We're not responsible for their content or privacy practices, so please read their policies before sharing your information.

14. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time to reflect changes to our business or the law. We'll post the updated version on this page with a new "last updated" date. If the changes are significant, we'll let you know by email or on our website.
